Our Community

CrossFit Kawartha is a high performance training facility in Peterborough, Ontario. We use functional exercise, plyometrics, conditioning training, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing and jumping to help us reach our goals. Our CFK community is extremely diverse in their conditioning, experience, and day-to-day lives. We are all focused on improving and optimizing physical competence the 10 fitness domains (Cardio-respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.) The community atmosphere is full of support and friendliness for those willing to work.

A community that lives outside the generally accepted norms of society, that strives to continually better their fitness and themselves, including the lives of those around them.

We get many people asking  us what is it like to train at CFK. Really this is best answered by our members themselves as it’s different for everyone. To me CFK is a place to go where I feel empowered. Everyone, no matter their fitness level, is accepted and cheered on. Where our coaches and fellow crossfitters cheer each other on and are truly excited when others reach their goals. You can’t find that in a regular gym. The support I have recieved from CFK during my battle with breast cancer has been amazing and very humbling. That is what crossfit is about…..supporting and empowering others while reaching our own goals.

Crossfit Kawartha is about community, belonging and supporting each other with healthy competitve undertones to keep pushing to the next level. It’s about pushing yourself beyond what you thought was you physical limit (getting your ass kicked and sometimes coming home feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus!). It’s about harnessing peer pressure in a positive way: if you go awol you or Deb will call you on it, and during workouts you encourage/push members (members do too!). It’s about setting goals, making necessary steps to make them happen, and being accountable.

What does the CFK community mean to me?? Inclusion..fun..supportive…informative…friendly…no ego’s…challenging…fresh…competitive, whether it’s with yourself, or friendly pushes between friends, It’s your choice…educational…motivational!

I like everyone I work out with in a different way…. I have never arrived at the gym and thought to myself, oh shit, that person is here tonight, or I really hate working out with this person……..

I liken it to what I used to tell me staff when i ran kitchens. We’re all apprentices.  meaning no matter what your strength or physical fitness level, you can learn something new from each and every person there. and everyone seems willing to share tips, tricks and support each other. while we all may have different reasons for being there, we all have the same goal…… to get fit, and live longer…..its that zest for life that keeps me going…

It’s about no one but yourself. Pushing yourself as hard as you can to get the results that you want. Doing and achieving extraordinary things that you never would have dreamed of. And doing it all with a community of like minded people who are there to support you every step of the way! But no one can put in the effort for you, thats your job :)
